Week of February 5th-9th

Curriculum News

As we continue with our unit of “A Long Journey to Freedom”, we will be taking a look at a story that tells about a young man who escaped to freedom in a very unique way.  This book is called Henry’s Freedom Box and will allow us to discuss in greater depth why so many people took this very dangerous risk that may or may not lead them to freedom.  Towards the end of the week we will take a short break from this topic as we take a closer look at the Winter Olympics.  Students will get the opportunity to learn a bit about the history of these games and some of the very exciting events that will be taking place starting at the end of this week.

During our Science time we will be investigating the effects of pollution and how it affects all living things here on Earth.  In Math, we will still be spending our time working on telling time.  This is a skill that will be used throughout their lives and so we will be utilizing this time to help ensure understanding of this very necessary skill!

Students have continued to do very well with their reading logs!  This is a group that loves to share their enthusiasm for reading and it is so wonderful to see!  Keep it up second grade!!!!!
