Week of Nov. 3rd-7th

We have had a very busy week at Emden Elementary!  I will be posting a few pictures of some of the activities very soon, but with Red Ribbon Week and Halloween I am a bit behind.  For that I do apologize!

Curriculum

Next week will also find us trying to play catch up to get in some of the lessons that we did not get to the previous week.  For that reason, some of the skills and material covered will be repeated.  We will be looking at a Magic Tree House Book during our literacy time, however, that gives us the opportunity to continue our exploration of the “Wild West” and the topic of “Ghost Towns”.  During our science time we will continue to look at a variety of classifications of animals.  We will also be working on more 2-digit addition during our math time!

Week of October 27th-31st

Ah….the last week of October and yet so many important topics and skills to be covered.  At the bottom of this post are some important notes about upcoming events for this week.  There are definitely several exciting things happening at Emden Elementary!

Curriculum

During our Literacy Block/ Daily 5 time we will be exploring the topic of the “Wild West”, with a special emphasis on poetry.  We will focus on several poems written by the famous poet, Carl Sandburg as well as Brewster Higley’s, Home on the Range.  This will give students the opportunity to see more examples of styles of poetry while learning a bit about our country’s history during the years of the exploration of the western territory.

We have also been compiling an ocean journal with a lot of valuable information that we have been learning about the ocean habitat.  This will continue along with our exploration of a variety of classification of animals.  Social Studies will lead us into the discussion of  landforms and geographical maps.  There are still so many things to be learned this week!

This week’s spelling list was put together using some appropriate Halloween words as well as some of the words used during our discussion with Miss.
