Week of January 28th-February 1st

Curriculum News

Because of the several snow days which we have been experiencing as of late, we will hopefully be trying to catch up on where we should be this upcoming week.  With this in mind, you will see a lot of repeats from last week but it is going to take us a while to get back on track!  This next week we will be able to finally begin our unit- The Long Journey to Freedom.  We will begin by focusing on the key role that our sixteenth president, Mr. Abraham Lincoln, played in this part of our country’s history.    During Math we will be focusing more on Telling Time to help ensure that students have a good grasp of this very important concept.   Keep practicing this important skill at home when you can please!!!

During our Science time we will be taking a look at our changing habitats and how our weather changes the land around us.  This will help students see the need for animals to be able to adapt to their surroundings to help ensure survival.  We will also be continuing our work with cursive letters.  Very soon we will be working on some of the uppercase letters which will allow us to begin practicing complete sentences in cursive.  Students are working very hard and doing a fine job!

Reminders/Announcements:

*Valentine’s Day will fall on a Thursday this year.  On that day we will be having class parties….with the help of our wonderful room parents of course!  The 2nd grade party will run from 1:00-2:00 on that day!  I will send a class list home during the first week of February to help students make out their Valentine’s Day cards.

Have a safe and wonderful weekend!
