Week of February 26th-March 2nd

Curriculum News

During our Literacy block this week, we will continue with our author’s study of Tomie DePaola.  Students have really enjoyed our exploration of some of his famous characters, but this week we will get the opportunity to look at some of his other more popular works.  He has written several non-fiction books that cover some of his favorite topics.   This will give us the opportunity to learn more about him and some of the fascinating things found in his books.  We will also get a chance to know some of his other famous characters and learn about some new legends as we wrap up our 2 week study of this very entertaining children’s author.

After we wrap up our work with measurement, we will be starting to work on the very necessary skill of counting money.  There is a separate note being sent home requesting students to bring in some spare change to help us practice counting coins.  I do realize that this might be an inconvenience, however, the best way for them to learn is by having actual coins available to practice with.  This will help students become more aware of the size, weight, color, and appearance of both sides of coins as they begin their work with counting coins.  Thank you so much for your help with this!
