Week of April 3rd-7th

Curriculum News & Information

During our Reading/Literacy block, we will be spending time reviewing some of the things which we have learned throughout our Hand-Me-Down-Tales From Around the World Unit.  Students will also be creating concept maps using some single concept books that will be available in class.  They will also get the opportunity to compare and contrast various homes from around the world and a variety of breads that are baked and enjoyed in a number of different locations.  During our focus on writing time, we will be practicing some of our previously learned writing skills such as super sentences to help enhance our daily work.  Students will also take a look at various types of writing styles as we practice writing similes in class, all the while preparing them for the next step in their education….third grade!

Math will lead us in the direction of studying place value up to the one thousand.  This will also give us the opportunity to work on things such as comparing numbers and writing and saying numbers various ways.  During Social Studies we will still be taking a look at numerous map skills and getting second graders familiar with important sites within this amazing country that we call home!  There is still so much to learn and explore in second grade!
