Week of March 18th-22nd

Curriculum News

This week will begin our discussion of folktales.  Students will learn the elements found in stories that put them into this category and will look at some well- known folktales that all children should know- The Three Little Pigs, Cinderella, and Hansel and Gretel for example.  Then we will be taking a look at some fun and entertaining folktales from around the world, beginning with the island of Cuba.  Students will also be discussing the concepts of cause and effect which will help them better understand of all types of stories.

In Math, we will be continuing with our study of counting money.  Students have been doing quite well when reviewing the basics but very soon we will be getting to the more challenging skill of counting mixed coins, which is a skill that they will use for the rest of their lives!

During our Science time, students will be focusing on the study of our solar system.  This will also introduce them to some amazing facts about all of the planets that rotate around the same sun.  In Social Studies we will start to take a look at economics which will include the difference between needs and wants.  This will lead them into several other fascinating topics within this area.
