Curriculum News

This week we have begun our author study on Tomie DePaola.  Some of our time was spent getting to know this very popular children’s author who has written more than 260 books for children.  We have just scratched the surface of some of these fun and entertaining books and will definitely need more time throughout the upcoming week to read, discuss, and write some more about this very engaging author and illustrator.

During this upcoming week, 2nd grade will be diving into the very important skill of counting money.  Students will get the opportunity to review the names of the coins along with their value and will be starting to work on counting a mixed coin collection as well.  Remember to keep practicing at home with any spare change that can be found!  It is always important to seize any opportunity to practice with “the real thing”!

During our Social Studies time, we will be continuing a bit more with our study of the original 13 colonies.  Students have all been assigned one of these colonies and have been given some guidelines so that they know what they are looking for.  Our research has just begun and students will be given more time here to learn as much as possible about some of these amazing places.  Once enough information has been gathered, students will be making a little booklet about their colony which will then be displayed so that others can learn a bit more about where our country all began.
