Week of April 1st-5th

Curriculum News

This week we will continue with our discussion of folktales and fairytales.   This will give us the opportunity to look at many different versions of some well-known folktales.  There are a lot of “fractured” fairy tales and folktales out there that will help us better understand story elements and how settings affect the plots in stories.  Students always enjoy having the opportunity to read different versions of well-known stories which will also help students to further develop their ability to compare similar things.   During our writing time we will be working on some more personal narratives, where students recall an important event from their life and are able to retell this on paper.  They will be encouraged to use vivid adjectives and super sentences to help bring their stories to life!

During our Science time we will turn our attention towards the Earth.  This will help us prepare for Earth Day as we discuss different ways to take care of our planet and ways that we can help ensure that we keep it a healthy place for everyone in the distant future.

In Math, we will be wrapping up our money unit by working on counting coins and dollar bills.  They  will also be working on adding money together.  Students will see how this valuable skill is something that they will be using for the rest of their lives.  They have been working very hard for quite some time now but will still need to revisit this important skill in the future!  Keep practicing!
