Week of March 5th-8th

Curriculum News

Over the next couple of weeks we will be spending our time getting to know a very famous children’s author named Tomie DePaola.  During our first week we will learn a bit about his background and where he gets some of his ideas for his characters and stories.  Then we will take a look at some of his more popular books that involve a very wise character named Strega Nona.   This will also give us the opportunity to work on some of our own story writing skills that are set in some very unique locations as well.

We have been spending a few extra days reviewing time so starting this week, we will be working with money.  We will start out with some activities that help us review the basics….such as the names of coins and their values.  Then we will move on to more challenging tasks such as adding coins together to come up with a total.

*Starting this next week, we will be welcoming an extra teacher in the second grade classroom.  Mrs. Brianna Eeten will be joining us as she finishes up her student teaching through Western Governers University.  Her placement will be in our classroom for approximately 2 months.  During that time she will be doing some observing but will gradually be taking over teaching responsibilities one subject at a time.  I will always be present in the classroom during this time but we look forward to having her with us in the 2nd grade classroom!
