Weeks of November 19th & 20th / November 26th-30th

This blog will cover 2 weeks of information because of the extremely short week which is coming up!

Curriculum News & Information

With the very short week that we have next week, we will NOT be having a spelling test.  The words which are given below are words for the week of November 26th-November 30th.    During our two days next week, we will be taking a closer look at the history behind our beloved Thanksgiving holiday.  This will include some stories which we will look at during our Literacy block, as well as several lessons in the afternoon during our usual Social Studies time.  This will hopefully help students become more aware and appreciative of why this day is so special in our country.  In Math, we will be wrapping up our work with 2 digit addition with some work that will require students  to use some of their problem solving skills while using their experience with adding 2 digit numbers.

After Thanksgiving Break we will continue with our unit on “Building Bridges With Unlikely Friends” as we take a look at some fun stories that emphasize the fact that we do not need to be alike to be good friends!  The first one will be a study of Charlotte’s Web .  This story shows students a perfect example of how friendships come in all shapes and sizes!  During our Science time, we will be starting to take a look at our Earth’s Surface, beginning with the importance and many uses of both plants and water which are both vital to Earth’s continued existence.  Our work with cursive handwriting will also continue, as students are adding more and more cursive letters to their repertoire!
