Week of May 8th-12th

Curriculum News & Information

This next week should be a nice change of pace from our last couple of weeks.  We will have almost a full week in the classroom to start to wind things up in second grade.  During our reading/literacy block time in the morning we will be starting a short unit that discusses Making Healthy Choices as we take a look at the Magic School Bus story which focuses on the “Inside of the Human Body”.  As we continue to develop our writing skills, we will be working on turning our notes about Hawaii into a story/paragraph.  During our math time we will be reviewing several concepts which have been covered previously to help ensure comprehension and retention of these very important skills.  Even though we only have 13 attendance days left, there is still so much to cover and review to help prepare these students for third grade.

There were so many fun activities this past week mixed in with our numerous learning opportunities!  Students seemed to really enjoy our Lei Day Celebration and hopefully will remember some of the interesting facts that were covered during our study of our beautiful 50th state.  Students also did a fantastic job during our Jump Rope For Heart event in the gym.  They really pushed themselves to complete the activities knowing that their efforts were for a very good cause!  Way to go second grade!

Keep practicing those addition and subtraction facts as well as cursive writing!  These skills will be necessary to help ensure success in the many years to come!
