Ah….the last week of October and yet so many important topics and skills to be covered. At the bottom of this post are some important notes about upcoming events for this week. There are definitely several exciting things happening at Emden Elementary!
Curriculum
During our Literacy Block/ Daily 5 time we will be exploring the topic of the “Wild West”, with a special emphasis on poetry. We will focus on several poems written by the famous poet, Carl Sandburg as well as Brewster Higley’s, Home on the Range. This will give students the opportunity to see more examples of styles of poetry while learning a bit about our country’s history during the years of the exploration of the western territory.
We have also been compiling an ocean journal with a lot of valuable information that we have been learning about the ocean habitat. This will continue along with our exploration of a variety of classification of animals. Social Studies will lead us into the discussion of landforms and geographical maps. There are still so many things to be learned this week!
This week’s spelling list was put together using some appropriate Halloween words as well as some of the words used during our discussion with Miss. Carr about eating healthy foods and exercising more! The students are loving the opportunity to learn more about the importance of taking care of our bodies!
